A few months ago I wrote a post about a few Mariah Carey remixes that I thought were better than the original versions, and this remix of Usher’s 2008 single ‘Love In The Club’ is another example of when that happens. It’s not just the addition of Beyoncé that elevates the song, but lyrically it’s far more interesting than the original which is simply just about wanting to get in on in a night-club. This version is a conversation between the two singers and as a listener it’s much more engaging that just “I wanna make love in this club, yeah!”. I also think the production is more sophisticated on the remix.
Side note: I miss hearing Bey on this type of record. The closest we’ve been to it in the last few years is probably ‘Rocket’ from the ‘Beyoncé’ album. As much as her rap-singing on ‘Everything Is Love’ was exciting and new, I do hope she blesses us with a few more mid tempo R&B jams in the not-so-distant future.
