Kylie Minogue is the artist who first drew me in to music when I was just a few years old. The first music recording I ever owned was her 1989 single ‘Never Too Late’ on vinyl (which I still have). My walls were covered with Kylie posters and I even used to dress up like her…
Yup, that’s me in a custom-made pencil skirt and sparkly boob tube. Je ne sais pas pourquoi.
Although the posters have come down from the wall and I no longer fit in to the boob tube, I still love Kylie’s music and always keep an ear out for what she’s doing. Her recent single Music’s Too Sad Without You is probably my favourite Kylie song of the last decade. I’ve always been a fan of her ballads and mid-tempos and this melancholy number is a beautiful addition to other such songs in her catalogue. We all know the pop princess’ voice lends itself brilliantly to a dance floor filling pop song, but I think some of her best vocal performances can be found amongst the ballads. If you don’t believe me, just listen to ‘Put Yourself In My Place’ (one of my all time favourite Kylie songs).
