WHO DO I HAVE TO BEG TO GET P!NK TO DO ANOTHER R&B ALBUM?????Her debut offering ‘Can’t Take Me Home’ is one of the best records from the early 00s and most definitely my favourite P!nk album. As I understand it the direction of Can’t Take Me Home was led very much by LA Reid who believed P!nk’s strength lay in R&B music (which was HUGE at the time) but P!nk always saw herself taking a more pop/rock route (something she did from her second album onwards). I think the fact that she has achieved success in both genres speaks to her versatility as a vocalist, however as a longtime fan I feel I have enough of the pop/rock albums from her for the moment and would LOOOOOVE another R&B album. There is just no denying P!nk’s ability to deliver a soulful vocal over a sexy beat as Let Me Let You Know (below) proves. This song was not released as a single but features a then unknown Robin Thicke on writing duties with production by Single Ladies producer Tricky Stewart.
Sadly I fear R&B album 2.0 from P!nk may never bless our speakers. A lyric from her 2001 single Don’t Let Me Get Me may offer an insight in to how she feels about her past days as an R&B songstress:
“LA told me “You’ll be a pop star.
All you have to change is everything you are.”
I don’t want to put words in to P!nk’s mouth, but I imagine if she feels that chapter of her career was inauthentic she may therefore be reluctant to revisit it. But with her status as a pop/rock artist well and truly solidified, maybe now is the time to hit the public with the kind of music that made us fall in love with her in the first place.
