So apparently a new Sugababes album IS coming. In August 2018 Keisha revealed new music would be coming soon and so would an explanation as to what has taken so long…

Until then we have Flatline. Released five years ago (!) this song still bangs and frankly should have been a hit. Sadly, I believe there are a lot of people out there who do not even know this song exists. Most likely due to the girls being unable to legally release music under the name ‘Sugababes’ the song’s release did not catch the ear of casual listeners (number 50 on the UK Singles Chart), though it was very well received by critics.

Each incarnation of the Sugababes (of which there were four) had its own unique sound, but there is nothing quite like the vocal blend from original members Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan. Unlike many other vocal harmony groups who aim for a tight blend that almost sounds like one voice, the original formation embraced the unique quality that each girl possessed vocally and when you listen to their early releases you can always pick out each individual voice on the backing vocals. All Saints are another girl group who have adopted a similar production style. I personally love the effect because it almost gives the recording a live feel.

Roll on a new release from Mutya Keisha Siobhan, AKA the OGs, AKA the SUGABABES.
